ABOUT OUR HISTORY

History of Shiloh’s Leaders

​

Throughout the Bible, the LORD reminds His people to tell all generations about His wonderful works. Part of what that means for us as a church is that we must preserve the memory of how God worked through our ancestors to build and strengthen His Church.  Shiloh has a strong sense of its history, because we, who are here today, directly represent that history.  We have a better sense of identity to build of its future. Today we remember those who were here when Shiloh was built, those who were part of its early ministries, and those who helped the church grow and change over the years. 

 

The land that Shiloh stands on today was donated in 1900 by the Shiloh Baptist Church that sits on Hwy 142.  The original church was built by Orance Williams.  At that time the members called Rev. Flem Jackson as Pastor.  The Deacons that served under Rev. Jackson were Rich Fears, Will Ponder, Wyatt Fears, Charlie Hicks and Rick Patterson.

 

Among the other early pastors were Rev. Charlie Nash and Rev. Moses Edler (1905). 

Rev. L. G. Ackin (1921-1928), Rev. John Durden (1928-1941), Rev. Samuel Arthur Williams (1941 – 1950),   Rev. Joseph Slaughter (1951-1953), Rev. Buddy Campbell (1953), Rev. Edward Dukes  (1954 – 1962), Rev. Knight (1962 – 1966). Rev. Perry (1966 -1968),     Rev. Campbell ( served 2 months until he passed away).  Various Pastors were called during that year to complete Rev. Campbell’s term.  Rev. C.C. Reeves (1969 – 1977),  Rev. Jimmy Horton (1977 – 2003) and Rev. C. L. Bryant (2003 -2014).  Our Current Pastor is Rev. Kerwin Scott (2016- present). 

 

The following were some of our prior Deacons:  William Causby, Johnny Johnson, Lucius Fears, Willie Clyde Fears, Dorsey Kelly, Rossie Jefferies Sr., Jimmy Jefferies, James Stewart, Charlie Robinson, Roy Fears and Sidney Dudley.
